TOPEKA, Kansas, September 12, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A pro-life group presented 2,500 pages of documentation outlining the horrors of abortion for mothers and their pre-born children at a public hearing held by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment last week.

The hearing, which was held Thursday, sought comments from the public on proposed regulations on abortion facilities in Kansas. The documentation was presented by Operation Rescue (OR).

“We have documented a long list of abortion clinic horrors in Kansas, including patient injuries and death, filthy and dangerous clinic conditions, and illegal activity,” said OR President Troy Newman, who presented the documents.

“These new regulations will give enforcement agencies the teeth they need to enforce the laws and protect women and their pre-born babies from abortion abuses.”

The new regulations, which are scheduled to come into full effect this October, will “for the first time in Kansas, hold abortion clinics to common-sense standards,” said Newman.

At the meeting Sen. Peggy Mast defended the regulations, recalling the state’s difficulties in regulating Krishna Rajanna, who was reported to have operated an appallingly filthy and dangerous abortion facility in Kansas City, Kansas.

“He ran women through like cattle in a slaughterhouse. It took two years to close him down,” said the Senator.

During the meeting, Newman, along with Cheryl Sullenger, OR’s Senior Policy Advisor, made brief oral presentations.

“Sullenger detailed horrific abortion abuses, such as patient deaths, patient rapes, unlicensed and illegal abortions, filthy conditions, and even murder that could have been prevented if regulations like those proposed in Kansas were in effect elsewhere,” stated OR’s press release about the event.

Also present at the meeting were voices that opposed the new regulations.

“Just because a regulation ‘can’ be met doesn’t mean it ‘should’ be met,” said Peter Brownlie of Planned Parenthood Kansas.

Herbert Hodes, who operates an abortion facility in Overland Park with his daughter, Traci Nauser, lobbied to release surgical abortion patients just 15 minutes after surgery, instead of the 2 hours that is required by the new regulations, related OR’s press release.

“These abortion clinic regulations are a long time coming. I make no excuses for wanting to restrict access to abortion services, particularly ones provided by the shoddy, filthy type of organizations run in this state,” said Newman.
